Writing (Blog from Meu Amor)

Writing has always been fun, especially when jotting down thoughts in my notebook.  However, writing a book is different.  I followed simple steps, learned at school.

1. Brainstorm – Choose a topic and organize ideas
2. Research – Go to the library, read books, and make a map of facts
3. Write – Make a rough draft
4. Revise – add details to make a story more interesting
5. Edit – Proofread and correct all mistakes

It took me more time to do No. 5 than the rest.  People may think that all newspaper reporters eventually want to become an editor.  Wrong!  If you enjoy finding mistakes in puzzles, or can train yourself to be a perfectionist, you may have a chance.  It is very time consuming to edit, and I suffered cutting one of my favorite characters and events, just to run the story smoothly.

But finishing the book is rewarding.  So I recommend: “just do it.”

本を書くのは大変です。学校で習ったようにまず本題を決めてリサーチ、ドラフトを書いたらさらに出来事をつけたしたり、気持ちを重ねたりしてストーリーを楽しく進めます。ここまでは楽しいのですが、その後に編集という大きな仕事が待っています。

全ての新聞記者はいずれ編集長になりたいのだろうと思われるかもしれませんが、それは違います。もともと間違い探しのパズルが好きだったり、完璧になれる人なら可能性があります。でも私には大変な作業でした。いくら話をスムーズにするためとはいえ、気に入っている登場人物や出来事を削除するのは苦しかったです。結局、編集の方が書くよりもっと時間がかかりました。

ただ出来上がるとかなり嬉しいです。だから挑戦してください。
