This is the way I understood Bushido…
“When in fighting, you always must respect your opponent.”
“What does it mean?”
“You must understand why he does that, why he became your enemy.”
“Why?”
“By understanding your enemy and his motives, you already have advantage.”
“Then?”
“It must be done quickly. When he attacks you, you have no time. You must finish him, otherwise he will come back again…”

When a samurai kills someone, he is not happy. No one becomes happy by taking someone’s life.
He knew why the opponent had to attack him.
Now the samurai must carry the sorrow…
“Bushido” is a fancy name but it is not something you can fantasize or dream of.
