Movie Night: “Vancouver No Fixed Address”

Are we still the world’s best place to live?

Director Charles Wilkinson (“Haida Gwaii” “Oil Sands Karaoke”) has documented various environmental problems in Canada.  This beautiful movie on Vancouver features probably the most familiar problem to us.

Vancouver has always been praised as the world’s most beautiful city to live in, because of its mild climate and beautiful nature. But since 2008 and more particularly around the Winter Olympics, the house prices increased dramatically. There are many empty houses bought by offshore investors, yet there are too many homeless people on the streets.  Young people as well as retiring people start leaving the city, and we witness many unusual phenomena such as million dollar loans, share-homes, garage or basement remodelling , micro-apartment, and so on…

The film is filled with the director’s love of the city.  His beautiful cinematography makes us think: What can we do now for Vancouver, our home?
