A Fun Day at Hastings Horse Racing
The Vancouver’s Hasting (PNE) horse race is now open! This traditional horse race has been in Vancouver since 1889 as the only sports betting event, before the casino and the BC lottery started.
The scenery of this racecourse is quite amazing. You can listen to the professional DJ live while looking at the mountains of North Shore and the Pacific Ocean. There is a Casino with the latest slots machines, as well as a food court, kids’ corner, wine bar, and a restaurant where you can enjoy the panoramic view while watching horse races.
Find your favorite horse
Ten minutes before the horse racing, each horse will show up at the adjacent circle. This called “Parade to Post”, as the horses slowly go to the start line. There are usually 8 races with 8 horses. Even though there are installed machines to bet, it’s better to visit the ticket counter and get more information.
*Basic Terms For Beginners*
There are two ways to bet: Basic and Exotic
Basic Wager (Choose one horse):
Win (Your horse must finish No. 1, the prize money is big)
Place (Your horse must finish No. 1 or 2)
Show (Your horse must finish No. 1, 2, or 3)
Betting starts from at least 2 dollars
Exotic Wager (Choose several horses):
Exactor (Your 2 horses must finish 1st and 2nd in exact order)
Triactor (Your 3 horses must finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in exact order, popular bet)
Superfecta (Your 4 horses must finish 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in exact order)
Boxing an Exactor, Triactor, or Superfecta allows selected houses to finish in any order.
Do not throw the tickets until the final result comes out on the board. All prizes are tax-free.
Horse racing lovers are friendly
With the familiar horse race fanfare, you will hear the famous voice of Hasting, Mr. Dan Jukich. He grew up watching horse races with his father when he was young. This is his 26th year and he proudly says, “I have the best job in the world.”
In addition to the live races, Hasting also hosts global world horse races from the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia. In July there are other fun events such as the night sky illumination and the Dachshund race. Pets are prohibited except guiding dogs.
There were about 1100 horses in the early days but today the number has decreased to half. However, there are still many fans from pros to beginners who just come to enjoy the day. We can’t agree more to the old saying “There are no bad people among horse racing fans”, as there are many kind people at the Hasting Horse Race.

～美しい風景で楽しむ一日～
４月23日にオープンしたバンクーバーのヘイスティングス（PNE）競馬。1889年からバンクーバーで支持されてきた、この競馬は、まだカジノやBCロッタリーが登場する前、スポーツ賭博が唯一BCで認められていた時代からの伝統を持つ。
ライブ競馬
毎年４月から10月までの約６カ月間。
毎週土、日、祝日の午後１時50分から午後５時まで。
アクセス
スカイトレイン・レンフリュー(Renfrew)駅から出発する黄色い送迎バスが利用できる。駐車場を利用する場合は一日12ドル。
現地に到着すると驚くのが競馬場の景色。バンクーバーならではのノース・ショアの山々と、パシフィック・オーシャンを背景に、プロのDJライブが聴ける。隣接されるカジノでは600ほどの最新のスロットマシーンが設けられ、気軽に楽しめるフードコートやキッズコーナー、パノラマ光景と競馬観戦が一度に楽しめるレストラン、ワインバーなど、豪華なエンターテイメントに仕上がっている。
自分好みの馬で勝負
競馬が始まる10分前、各馬が隣接されたサークルでお披露目ウォークをする。その後ゆっくりとスタートラインに向かう美しい馬のParade to Postは、競馬ファンでなくても満足できる。通常レースは８回で馬は８頭。至る所に設置されているマシーンを使っても賭けられるが、初めての人はカウンターで自分の決めた馬の番号を伝えてチケットを購入する。
賭ける方法はBasicとExoticの２通りがある（初心者用）
Basic
単勝(Win)： （１番になる馬を選ぶ、配当金は大きい）
馬連(Place)：（選んだ馬が１番か２番になる）
複勝(Show)：（選んだ馬が１番、２番、または３番になる）
賭け金は最低２ドルから
Exotic
馬単(Exactor)：（２頭選んで順番通り１番と２番になる）
３連単(Triactor)：（３頭選んで順番通り１、２、３番になる）
４連単(Superfecta)：（４頭選んで順番通り１、２、３、４番になる）
順位に関係なく勝ちたいときはボックス買い（Boxing）をさらに上から賭ける。上級者はさらに、４番から６番まで選んで賭けることもできるので、詳しくはインフォメーションでガイドを購入して参照。
人気の３連単（Triactor）は賭け金が６ドルで、配当金が平均665ドルにもなるそうだ。チケットは、くれぐれも最終結果がボードに出るまで捨てないように。配当金はすべて税金フリー。
競馬好きはフレンドリー
パンパンパ、パパパ…という日本でもおなじみのファンファーレと共に聞こえるのが、ヘイスティングスのボイスといわれる有名なダン・ジュキッシュ（Dan Jukich）さんのアナウンス。今年26年目で「世界で一番の仕事をしている」という彼は、父親につれられて幼いときから競馬を見て育ったベテランだ。
ライブ観戦以外に、ヘイスティングスでは日本、オーストラリア、香港、アメリカ各地のグローバルな世界競馬も楽しめる。恒例のジャパン・レース（Japan Race）は５月13、20、27日。日本の騎手をバンクーバーのスクリーンから応援できるのも面白い。さらに７月は夜空のライトアップや、ダックスフンド犬のレースなど様々な企画がある。会場は盲導犬以外のペットは禁止なので要注意。
初期に1100頭ほどいた馬も今は約半分。しかし今でもデータを読むプロから競馬を知らない人まで、ファンが多い。『競馬好きに悪い人はいない』という言葉に納得するぐらい親切な人が多いのも特徴だった。
