ロッテルダム国際映画祭の「シグナルズ」は人気監督をクローズアップする企画。今年はアジアから社会風刺の貢献度が高い、韓国のチャン•ジン監督の映画11本が上映された。時には過激派から追われながらも自分の信じる映画を撮り続け、多様なジャンルの脚本家としても有名な監督の最新作『ハイヒールの男』は、今年各国際映画祭で多くの監督たちが鑑賞した。チャン•ジン監督は挨拶で「良い俳優とスタッフに恵まれているので、作品が悪ければみな僕のせいだ」と語った。映画評論家のトニー•レインズ氏が、「この映画祭の後、君たちはチャン•ジンという名前を知る。そして誰もが『なぜもっと早く見つけなかったのだろう』と後悔する」と予告した通り、彼の映画をひたすら追う映画ファンが続出した。最終日、監督はそんなファンに感謝を込めてもう一本無料上映し、DVDをサイン入りで配っていた。

 

~ Sarcastic movies with kindness and affection ~

“Signals” of the Rotterdam International Film Festival is a project that introduces a significant director from the world. This year, a Korean director Jang Jin was selected for his contribution of social satire and his 11 films got the spotlights.  Despite the fact that he was being threatened by political activists, Mr. Jang continued to film with his own beliefs.  Being a screenwriter of various genres he is well appreciated among other directors and a welcome guest at many international film festivals.   At the preview of his latest movie “Man On High Heels,”  Director Jang said, ”I was blessed with great actors and an excellent staff, so if you do not enjoy the movie, it will be all my fault.” A British film critic, Mr. Tony Rayns warned the audience: ” After this film festival you guys will remember the name Jang Jin, and I am sure you all will regret that you did not discover him sooner.”  As he predicted, many movie fans followed Director Jang’s other films and many projections were completely sold out.  On the final day, the director thanked his fans, gave an extra film screening and distributed autographed DVDs!  Awesome!

 

Man on High Heels *****

韓国映画となるとやっぱりチャン•ジン監督です。もう始まる前から他の監督たちから期待されています。海外に住んでいると『ハイヒールの男』はもう去年の映画ですが、ヨーロッパでも完売するからすごいです。最強とされる刑事が本当は女性になりたいという願望を持っていた。彼が職場を離れようとした瞬間事件が起こる。雨の傘シーンは必見です。

チャン•ジン監督は本当に優しい監督。ファンの写真に応じて丁寧にサインしている彼の姿をよく見かけます。今イタリアで次の映画を撮っているようです。これも今から楽しみですね。
